Jerryd Bayless, the rookie guard for the Portland Trailblazers. I've been watching this guy since he was in about the eight grade, down in Phoenix, Arizona.
He was a star at St. Mary's H.S., and one of the best basketball players to ever come out of Phoenix. He spent one year at the University of Arizona before turning pro.
So far for the Blazers, he hasn't gotten many minutes. Brandon Roy, Steve Blake, Sergio Rodriguez, and Rudy Fernandez are all getting more playing time at the guard positions.
But I think Bayless has a future in the NBA. The kid can score. Last night, he put up 19 points in only 24 minutes, going 7 for 9 from the field in a win at New Orleans.
He's young. He still needs to learn the game. But he's going to get better. Watch out.
